Amazon RDS for SQL Server Connector - How to set up connection resource and use connector

Preparing the database

Prepare connection information for the database you want to connect with the Amazon RDS for SQL Server Connector.

-Host name/IP address
-Port number
-Administrative database
-User name
-Password

 

Creating a Connection resource

To use the Amazon RDS for SQL Server Connector in HULFT Square, you need to create a connection resource first.

1. In HULFT Square, go to [Main] - [DATA INTEGRATION] - [Connections] and click [Add New]. 

2. In the Type section, select [Amazon Web Services] for Connector and [Amazon RDS for SQL Server 2017 connection] for Type, then click [Next].

3. In the General section, set a name of the connection resource, workspace (optional) and description (optional), then click "Next".

4. In the Settings section, set the parameter values required for the connection. 
To verify the connection with the entered values, click [Verify Connection].

Item name Description Required Remarks
Host name Enter the database host name.

Port number Enter the database port number.
Default number is 1433.		 ○

Database name Enter the database name.  
  • Disabled when [Enter URL directly] is checked.
Enter URL directly Select whether or not to enter the URL of destination SQL Server database directly.
  • [Checked]:
    Enter the URL directly.
  • [Not checked]: (default)
    Generate URL based on the settings of [Host name], [Port number], and [Database name].
  
  • In case of [Not Checked], the parameters will be provided automatically.
URL

Enter the URL.
Standard URL format of SQL Server is jdbc:sqlserver://<Host name>:<Port number>;DatabaseName=<Database name>.


The connector supports URL which is supported by the JDBC driver.

  
  • Enabled when [Enter URL directly] is checked.
User name Enter a user name. ○
  • For more details on client information property, inquire the database vendor.
Password Enter the password.    
Limit the number of tables in list Select whether to limit the number of tables listed or not.  
  • If not checked, table names listed are not limited and all of the table names available are fetched.
Number of tables in list Enter a number of tables listed.  
  • Enabled when [Specify the number of tables in the list] is checked.
  • Default value is 500. When omitted, or when an invalid value is entered, 500 will be applied.
Limit the number of procedures Select whether to limit the number of procedures or not.
  • [Checked]:(default)
    limit the number of procedures listed.
  • [Not Checked]:
    Procedure names listed are not limited. Fetches all of the procedure names.
  

 
Number of procedures Enter the number of the procedures listed.  
  • Enabled when [Specify the number of procedures in the list] is checked.
  • Default value is 500. When omitted, or when an invalid value is entered, 500 will be applied.

 

5. When the Verify connection dialog box opens, set [Integrate service] and [Profile to load resources] and click "OK".
The verification test result will appear on the dialog box.

6. If there are no problems, click "Finish" to complete the connection resource creation process.

Now you have a Amazon RDS for SQL Server connection resource.

When connecting to resources on Amazon Web Services (AWS), HULFT Square and your AWS environment (VPC) will be connected via AWS PrivateLink as needed.

By creating a VPC endpoint in HULFT Square, you can connect to the VPC endpoint service in your AWS environment via PrivateLink.
In this case, the [DNS Name] of the created VPC Endpoint must be used for the [Host Name] or [URL] in the Add New screen under Resources - Connections.

Setting up the connector

Here is an example of using the Amazon RDS for SQL Server Connector on a script using the connection resource added above.

Example: Setting up a Amazon RDS for SQL Server Connector [Read Table] operation

Drag and drop [Cloud] - [Amazon RDS for SQL Server] - [Read Table] onto the script canvas to open the properties dialog.

The setting values for each item in the required settings tab are as follows:

-Destination: Select the resource name created in the section above (Creating a Connection resource).
-Table name: Select a table from the list of tables in the database.
-Schema definition: Automatically set when the Table name is selected.
